This is an illusion portrait I made of a friend for her birthday. The sequence of photos shows the progression from the original photo to a three-colour version in black and white, and then to the pattern I used to knit it (after being shrunk once more to reduce the number of pixels).

I used two yarns to knit it - the black is sock yarn by Regia. The white yarn is actually six strands of very thin glow-in-the-dark yarn from a yarn factory in Belgium, knit together as one strand. So this sucker also glows in the dark! (Although I’ve heard that it looks pretty creepy).

Many thanks to Steve, whose illusion Mona Lisa pattern and technique inspired this design.
