THREE-COLOUR SQUARES

This design appears to have squares of three different colours even though the entire piece of knitting consists of stripes in only two colours. It is much easier to see the three colours in real life than it is in the photos.

To knit this design


Section 1

Using Dark cast on 48 stitches. This counts as the first row of the first ridge.

Ridge 1 - Second Row : Knit the coloured stitches and purl the white stitches.

The chart shows p8, k16, p8, k16

Ridge 2 (Light) : Knit the first row. On the second row knit the coloured stitches and purl the white stitches.

The chart shows k16, p8, k16, p8

Ridge 3 (Dark) : Knit the first row. On the second row knit the coloured stitches and purl the white stitches.

The chart shows p8, k16, p8, k16

Ridge 4 (Light) : Knit the first row. On the second row knit the coloured stitches and purl the white stitches.

The chart shows k16, p8, k16, p8

Ridges 5 - 8 : Repeat Ridges 3 and 4 twice


Section 2

Ridge 9 (Dark) : Knit the first row. On the second row knit the coloured stitches and purl the white stitches.

Ridge 10 (Light) : Knit the first row. On the second row knit the coloured stitches and purl the white stitches.

Ridges 11 - 16 :  Repeat Ridges 9 and 10 three times.

Ridge 17 (Dark) : Knit the first row. On the second row knit the coloured stitches and purl the white stitches.

Ridge 18 (Light) : Knit the first row. On the second row knit the coloured stitches and purl the white stitches.

Ridges 19 - 24 : Repeat Ridges 17 and 18 three times.


Section 4

Ridges 25 - 32 : Repeat Ridges 3 and 4 four times.

Ridges 33 - 40 : As Section 2.
